The effectiveness of the Mercedes-Benz B Class safety features were tested during a 2019 report, rating the level of protection in the event of front, side and rear-end collisions.

Passenger protection

During testing, the B Class demonstrated good to predominantly good protection for all passengers, including occupants of varying sizes and those sat in different positions.

The report observes a good level of protection to all critical body areas during frontal offset, and good to adequate protection for front and rear passengers in the full-width rigid barrier test.

The Mercedes-Benz B Class scored maximum points during the side barrier impact test and good whiplash protection for front and rear seats was witnessed during rear-end collision. The autonomous emergency braking (AEB) system performed well at the low speeds in which many whiplash injuries occur.

Children

When tested on 6-year-old and 10-year-old dummies, the B Class provided good and adequate protection for all critical body areas during frontal offset. The B Class properly accommodates all compatible child restraints and the front passenger airbag automatically disables when a rearward-facing child restraint is installed.

Pedestrians and vulnerable road users

In the case of a stricken pedestrian, the bonnet and bumper provided good to predominantly good protection, and the AEB can detect cyclists and pedestrians in addition to cars.

Published in July 2019, this report shows a high level of protection for occupants and vulnerable road users, with the B Class receiving a five-star safety rating.
