The new Mercedes-Benz GLE is not only exceptionally dynamic and more comfortable on the road, it is also more competent off the beaten track than ever before. Its exterior design exudes strength and charisma and at the same time sets a new aerodynamic best value in its segment with a cw value from 0.29. The interior is even more spacious, the second row of seats is electrically adjustable as an option and a third seat row is available on request. And the GLE will be full of innovations at launch.
For example, the active suspension system E-ACTIVE BODY CONTROL on a 48-volt basis is a world first, and allows the GLE to master even the toughest of terrain. The new driver assistance systems further increase the level of active safety. The infotainment system has larger screens, and optionally comes with a full-colour head-up display with a resolution of 720 x 240 pixels and the MBUX Interior Assistant, which can recognise hand and arm movements and supports the driver's and front passenger's operating intentions. The new Mercedes-Benz GLE will be launched with two engine line-ups and will be delivered from the beginning of 2019.
With a sleek silhouette and beautifully designed details, the GLE is stylish from near and far.
Distinctive features on the new GLE include the muscular lines between the C-pillars and the tail lights. Both elegant and powerful, they are typical of Mercedes-Benz's progressive design.
The GLE's headlamps feature sophisticated LED technology, available as standard across the range. They are works of art with a distinctive design, and illuminate your path with a light colour that mimics daylight, making night time driving easier. The optional MULTIBEAM LED headlamps with ULTRA RANGE Highbeam give an even better view of the road ahead. Thanks to their 84 individually controllable LEDs, they can adjust extremely quickly and precisely to whatever traffic you're faced with.
Digital displays, open-pore woods and distinctive SUV design details show impressive inner quality.
The two 12.3-inch flat-screen digital displays are a striking centrepiece in the GLE's Widescreen Cockpit. And the deeper you delve, the better it gets, whether you're choosing from one of the four different graphic styles, or letting the car guide you with MBUX Augmented Reality Navigation.
The 'G' in GLE stands for 'Geländewagen' – the German for an off-road vehicle – and you can see this in several details on the new GLE's interior. From the angular air vents and the solid grab handles on the centre console, to the optionally available open-pore wood trim elements, there's no doubt that you're in a car that can tackle the elements.
Give your GLE a distinctive look thanks to optional, exquisite two-tone nappa leather. Then combine your choice with interior trims including brushed aluminium or open-pore wood. The optional ambient lighting, with 64 colours, shows the materials off in the best possible light.
The new GLE is the first SUV to feature the revolutionary MBUX infotainment system. It includes a voice control system and a touchscreen. And it's intelligent, as it learns more about the driver's habits and preferences on every trip.
You can customise the entire look and feel of the Widescreen Cockpit. There is a choice of four display styles: Classic, Sport, Progressive and Subtle. Your chosen style is also reflected elsewhere if the car has the optional ambient lighting.
Thanks to Augmented Reality Video, it's even easier to find your way around. The optional system merges the virtual and real worlds by overlaying graphic navigation and traffic information onto live images of your surroundings. A camera in the windscreen films the area in front of the vehicle and shows either the video or a stationary image on the media display. In addition, practical graphics, such as traffic lights, house numbers, street names or points of interest (POI), are incorporated into the image.
"Hey Mercedes." These two words start the intuitive voice control system, which reacts to almost every word. The system can even process indirect speech: the air conditioning will, for example, respond to "I feel cold" and increase the temperature setting. The voice control also has the ability to learn, so that it gets to know your voice and understands you better.
MBUX gives you the freedom you need for controlling all functions in the way that's most convenient to you, whether that's using voice control or intuitive touch functions. Available with the option of a multimedia display, there is also a touchpad built into the centre console which, like a smartphone, responds to single and multi-finger movements as well as handwriting. The displays can also be navigated using Touch Control buttons on the steering wheel.
The optional Head-up Display transforms your windscreen into a digital cockpit so you always have a view of the key information. Because it's within your line of sight, you can concentrate on the road and the traffic conditions in front of you. The virtual image generated by the head-up display is projected into the driver's natural field of vision and looks as if it's hovering above the bonnet. In this new design, information is displayed in high-resolution and in colour.
Come what may: the new GLE deals with it and relieves the strain on the driver, even when manoeuvring with a trailer.
The optional Driving Assistance package Plus reduces the strain on the driver, particularly on long trips but also in urban traffic. And the new GLE – featuring the latest generation of this technology – provides help in even more situations. For example, in traffic jams and when approaching bends, roundabouts and junctions. The new GLE can now even follow the vehicle in front in stop-and-go traffic, maintaining a safe distance before automatically speeding up when the road clears.
With this option, a total of four cameras – one in the radiator grille, one at the rear, and one in each exterior mirror – show a virtual bird's-eye view of the vehicle. An enhanced side view is also possible, making it easier to see kerbs. The 360-degree camera image is shown on the multimedia display and supplemented by guide lines. This all-round view makes it much easier to manoeuvre in and out of parking spaces. Special perspectives and a zoom mode also make it simpler to hitch up and manoeuvre a trailer.
Experience a totally new dimension in intelligent light distribution. With 84 individually controllable LEDs per headlamp, the new GLE adjusts its beams automatically and extremely quickly so that they're always at the right setting for the conditions. The integral LED technology also features an all-new design, so that the lights always look distinctive, day or night.
The new, optional ENERGIZING comfort control takes internal ambience to an entirely new level. A range of comfort systems are networked together for the first time to improve your wellbeing on the road. For example, the climate, sound, ambient lighting, fragrancing and seat comfort can all be synchronised to to help you relax. These programs depend on the engine and equipment and include settings such as Freshness, Joy, Comfort, Warmth, Vitality and PowerNap (only when stationary). This means that, even after a long journey, you'll arrive feeling as relaxed and refreshed as when you started.
